Fire Classification Table

  Class A: Caused by combustion of solid materials, mainly of organic origin, which normally burn under production of embers. eg: wood, paper, straw, textiles, coal and car tyres. Class B: Caused by combustion of liquids or materials that liquify. eg: petrol, benzene, oils, fats, paints, tar, ether, alcohol, stearin and paraffin. Class C: Caused by combustion of gases. eg: methane, propane, hydrogen acetylene, natural gas and city gas.

Class D*: Caused by combustion of metals. eg: aluminium, magnesium, lithium, sodium, potassium and their alloys.

Class F: Caused by cooking oil. eg: chip fat.
