Positioning Fire Extinguishers

The information below, is meant for guidance only and Bird 'n' Bloke Ltd recommend that if you have specific concerns about placement of your fire fighting equipment, you contact your local Fire Prevention Officer.

It is best to position a fire extinguisher in a visable position close to a fire exit, or alarm point. They should be mounted in a permenant position (so people know where to find them).

You should have to travel no more than 30 metres for a fire extinguisher.

When positioning fire extinguishers in a kitchen or other specific risk areas, they should not be put in an area which is high risk (eg. next to the cooker). The positioning in this instance should be near to an exit and not somewhere which could cause a person harm when they try to reach it.

Fire extinguishers should be accompanied by the appropriate sign, when it is out of direct view, as well as a directional arrow pointing people in the correct direction.
